This little painting was inspired by visits to both Muir Woods and Henry Cowell Redwoods Parks in California. They are just incredible! I used a combination of brushes, palette knives, acrylic paint and light modeling paste to create lots of textures and dimension. Once the modeling paste I used for the lightest leaves dried, I could lightly brush sunlight colors in the brightest parts of the painting. This painting was a happy accident! I did not set out to paint this scene - in fact, I covered what I originally did on the top half of this piece with dark blues. As it turns out, I loved the “night sky” color that emerged. I added some swirly clouds using a rough brush and my fingers - then lit the whole thing up with a glowing moon. 2020, Acrylic on Canvas, 16x20.

This painting was inspired by a photo of the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA. Every March, these flower fields burst into a stunning array of giant Ranunculus. It is my dream to visit this place and take pictures of my own. 2018, Acrylic on Canvas, 16x20.
